If you haven’t had your camera out this summer yet, now’s the time to grab it and get some great action and portrait images of your kids and your family. Not sure where you should go to take photos? Here are some great photo shoot locations for this summer:
Flower Gardens = Pretty Backgrounds
Any kind of garden adds a gorgeous backdrop to your images, and most major cities (and a lot of smaller ones) have at least one beautiful flower garden that the public can access. If you don’t have one nearby, perhaps ask a neighbour if you can use theirs!
Get some fun family exercise as you hike up to a good lookout for an amazing background – whether it’s an ocean or city view, or maybe just more mountains! Make sure you pick a hike your kids can handle, bring snacks and drinks, as well as a few towels to dry off before you take some amazing portraits of your kids enjoying nature.
The beach really is an amazing place for photos, not just because of the scenery but also because kids enjoy going there so much. Grab a telephoto lens while they are building sandcastles or splashing in the shallows – they won’t even notice that you are taking their photo! For sunny days on the water you may want a polarizing filter to help cut the glare.
Sure, they’ll be dirty, but they’ll be themselves out in the woods. Picking up bugs, digging in the dirt or roasting marshmallows all present great portrait-taking opportunities for your family. Bring the bug spray for the
after-dark photos, and perhaps a waterproof case (or a waterproof camera) for any water-based activities, such as kayaking or swimming.
If it’s hot and you have one nearby why not head to the water park? Your kids can cool off, you can relax while getting some fun action shots. Don’t forget you’ll need a faster shutter speed to catch the action and cut the blurring, although sometimes the blurred photos come out just as good – it means they’re having fun!
There are tons of other places where you can put together great family portraits or photos of your kids; such as barbecues, family reunions, kids’ camps, parks, playgrounds, even when washing the car! All you need is a willingness to get your camera out and start shooting, the rest will follow. Remember, the faster they are moving, the faster you’ll have to be to catch them on camera.
